This item is a decorative lidded jar featuring a vibrant turquoise peacock blue monochrome glaze, similar in style to Qing Dynasty ceramic pieces. It measures approximately 9 inches in width and 9 inches in height. The opening and corresponding lid are 4 inches across. It is crafted from porcelain or ceramic. It is marked. The rich glaze has intentional tiny crackling, which is more apparent in photographs than in person. The color is a very deep aqua with undertones of Cerulean in areas of darker pigment (pictured). The bottom rim is unglazed and shows some wear (pictured). One area of the very bottom of the jar has a thinner spot of pigment (pictured). The inside is clean and not discolored (pictured).
Often referred to as a ginger jar, tea jar, or a decorative pot, this large jar can be used for storage or as a standalone accent piece. The characters in the double circle on the piece read "Da Qing Qianlong Nian Zhi" (大清乾隆年製), which translate to "Great Qing [Dynasty], Qianlong [Reign] Made". The Qianlong reign lasted from 1736 to 1795. It is common for 19th and 20th-century Chinese porcelain to carry the marks of earlier famous reigns as a sign of respect or to increase market appeal. These are known as apocryphal marks and are not necessarily intended to deceive. In all likelihood this piece was made in the early or mid 1900s. It is substantial and fairly heavy. The photographs do not do justice to the deep aqua color and shiny glaze. If you love turquoise, this piece is for you.
