This is a first edition (2000) commemorative pop-up based on the book by L. Frank Baum. Robert Sabuda is well known for his creative kinetic paper sculptures and this book does not disappoint in its creativity and delightful surprises. The book has foil details and utilizes additional fold-outs and mini books. The balloon from the Emerald City is truly something! The book is in good used condition. There are a few marks or indistinct ink transfers (pictured in detailed photos). All of the pop-ups work as they should and there are no tears or issues. The original Emerald City spectacles are present, which is rare. The insets also have pop-ups which all function correctly.
This is a really fun, interactive, and delightful book. The back binding cover has a tear which has been fixed with tape (pictured) and the price reflects this issue. The binding itself is secure. The front and back covers have no significant flaws. The pop-up version of the classic story was created to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the original publication and the artwork was done in the style of the original illustrator, W. W. Denslow. The book measures approximately 8 by 10 and is over an inch thick.
