Atomic Space-Age MCM Silver Aluminum Tree from the 50s or 60s

This is a silver four-foot aluminum trademarked "Taper Tree." The actual assembled height is 54 inches. This tree is still very serviceable and lots of fun but is showing some age. The good: there is no tape on the branches and none are missing (there is one extra). The bad: the aluminum has lost some of its shine and the tree sheds a little. The branches are not pom-pom style and are a bit frizzled. The base is not original but works well; it is a cylinder with feet that attach and can be moved or adjusted. There are extra base feet, some hardware, and an extra pole connector included. Pebbles or sand could be added to the base for stability. The tree also comes with a multicolored light-up topper (with a plug) from the era that blinks. It too has a little oxidation but no missing pieces. The tree manufacturer is the Carey-McFall Company (also known as "Car-Mac") of Montoursville, Pennsylvania, which shifted from making window blinds to aluminum products in the space age. The "Taper Tree" was a trademarked brand name that Carey-McFall produced and sold exclusively through the Sears catalog. These trees were distinctive because they had different lengths and sizes of branches, which gave the tree a more natural, tapered appearance compared to the uniform branches of other brands.

The tree's original box has a lot of wear and tear and is placed in another box for safekeeping. The sleeves appear to be original. When assembling to the tree, two poles are joined by a dowel connector and this "trunk" is placed in the base. Gently spin the tree as you add branches so it is balanced. Assembly takes patience. Some of the silver "needles" do come off during assembly. The tree is around 62 to 67 years old but with a little care has many more holidays left in her.
