These whimsical animal pins were made in the 1940s, making this one nearly 85 years old. Reverse-carved (carved on the back of the pin rather than the front) lucite pins were primarily made in the 1940s. This type of novelty jewelry was very popular during the WWII era and immediately after. Materials like lucite and celluloid were commonly used for consumer goods when metals were restricted for the war effort. The pins often featured hand-painted details and the signature moving "googly" eyes. This pin has a working clasp and has a translucent, swirled pink color that ranges from baby pink to rose to a warm pink. The clasp has no corrosion or signs of wear. The pin is not scratched or worn. The pin is nearly 4 inches tall and about 1 1/3 inch wide. There is a slight amount of dust on the back (visible in the photos) as I have not attempted to clean it. There is a minute area of discoloration on the circumference of one of the eyes. Both of the googly eye irises move freely. Please see all the photos for a sense of the appearance and condition of this unique kitschy antique. These pins are increasingly rare and this one is in very good condition for its age.
